Guitar Hero mobile is very similar to its games console counterpart. You have a fret board with notes coming at you which you have to press at a certain point and you actually have the same controls for playing the Guitar, Bass guitar or Drums.

Sadly the fret board in this game seems to be all jerky and slow at times which just makes it awkward to play. You end up relying on the music itself for pressing the notes at the right times. This isn’t some device based issue either because on the Windows Mobile Marketplace, there’s a comment from a HD2 user saying he had the same problem & with all the power that device has, it just proves it’s a fault with the game. As well as a jerky fret board, the graphics of the whole game look like they were meant for a device with a much smaller screen. On my WVGA screen (480×800 pixels) all the graphics were pixelated and grainy. Next there’s the main menu, which is a bit fiddly to use. But at least you can use hardware keys to navigate with. Then there’s the issue of downloading songs. You have to download each song 3 times, once for each instrument; guitar, bass & drums. Plus you only get 2 mins of each song and its terrible quality.

Now, onto the good bits. There’s an online leader board for comparing your scores with everyone else over the internet, showing results for the whole career as well as individual songs. Then there are the 31 achievements to get throughout the game. The main interesting thing about this game is that besides having naff graphics, short and low quality songs & a jerky fret board, it’s still really very fun and addictive to play.
